My name is Lou and I just found a love in boating after a life time of curiosity so I wanted to say hello and let you all know who the guy is with all the questions in the near future... lol.
I bought my boat back in June and have enjoyed it since. I was your basic muscle car, classic car and motorcycle lover type person but after realizing I wasn't able to finish my car because of family responsibility and spending my free time doing family things and then one day wiping off an inch of dust off my pro-street Harley I decided to clean out the garage and thought about a boat for the whole family to enjoy. Well to put it short I haven't regretted it yet. I have an old boat to many but she is still seems to be a decent boat from what I hear and have experienced so far. I have a 1986 Sea Ray Sundancer 270. She is pretty clean but I plan on doing some upgrades and TLC on her while learning my way around because she was sitting for a year before I bought her but she is sea worthy now. Well I do not want to bore you all with me so let me just say hi and I look forward to being on this site and meeting you all. Here are some pics of my boat

~Cheers, Lou

Welcome, i'm new here but not new to the love of being on the water. To me it is the only way to unwind from the everyday stress life creates, nice boat too!!

Hi back Lou! Boating and camping has has been the best "family investment" we have made. That is a nice size boat for a first time owner. Enjoy it.

Congratulations Lou !!! The first mate and I had a 270 Sundancer of the same vintage back in the day. We didn't trailer it, but kept it at a local marina in New Orleans. We loved it. Single carb. 454 big block. She loved the gas, but would roll over 4-footers without breaking a sweat. Wished we would have upgraded to optional generator power for nights away from the marina. Good luck.

hi all and thanks again for the welcomes. I got her for a great price so I went with her but originally I was looking at 19 to 21 footers for a first boat, mostly open bows. After I seen her she just felt right. Hey Rooster that sounds cool, I didn't know they came with a 454 or was it a transplant engine? Mine has twin 350 Mercs with a 10' beam and I hear you on how she handles but with a single big block I could only imagine with just the weight reduction alone how she must of really moved never mind the power of a big block. I have mine docked to but not sure yet what to do once the weather changes. Some say shrink wrap and dry dock others say because I have her docked in a canal I could leave her all year round. I am just going to see what the others docked around me do and go from there.

Yes Lou, actually if I remember correctly, ours was the 268 Sundancer. 8.5' beam. Yours looks to be in great shape. I believe the 454 was stock, putting out around 330 hp.

welcome to iboats !

if you go to the merc i/o forum......at the top you will see a section called ADULTS ONLY.
that is a very handy section.....it will also have winterization information.
and shrink wrapping is never a bad idea.....

here in kelowna....i cleaned a 33 footer that had been left on a lift all winter.....the lift had a tin roof. the birds roosted on the rafters and the carp on that boat was about an inch thick.....it took 2 guys 4 hours to pressure wash that boat.....shrink wrapping would have been much cheaper
