Looking good Chris! Are you going to put a keel guard on it?

We don't have any beaches here, but if you are referring to the dock rash on the leading edge a Keel Guard might be a good solution? I touched it up with gelcoat and wet sanded however the camera makes something minor in person look quite obvious! (That is what the models say right?);)

It's a little pricey but, I would think 6 feet would take care of it. Who knows maybe your boat will go faster! :D

Truck & Boat.jpg

Launched today for the Madden voyage! The sea gods were good and it was a successful trip!:joyous:

Put $100 in of gas today and dunked it in, ran well once all the winterizing fogging oil truly burned off, Definitely has some torque for accelerating:cool: It handled the chop and whitecaps MUCH better than the Stingray could ever have! My dad joined us since he is the one who got me into boating in the first place.

Made a few observations:

-With 4 on board and running with the wind we broke 50MPH on the GPS which was satisfying. Might have more in it with a different prop? (19P Stainless 3 blade is on it). Is this a good choice?
-We also guzzled 1/4 tank in only 2 hours:facepalm:
-The 5.7L in the water is VERY quiet and smooth at all speeds/ RPM's.
-Ride is very predictable, boat feels very "Solid" and one unit where as the Stingray felt like two boats when crossing a wave (the flex).
-The trailer is junk and the rollers totally marred up the hull when re-loading. (Is this normal?) I've always had bunks before.

Overall very satisfied, Have w few more little things to fix (horn/ radio), having a graphics neighbor come by and do the Reg stickers tomorrow in a nice matching font and put our name on the back so we can Christen it.

glad all went well. Its always a good feeling

I do pretty well on my 5.7 if I keep out of the 3rd and 4th barrel of that carburetor.

But I can't hit 50 mph - if I could I might just use those two a bit more often.......

Mine is a 2 barrel and it's OEM, I read somewhere that changing to a 4 on this model wouldn't do anything where as a few people have suggested it.
At this time, I don't see investing in anything that isn't broken or needing tuneup under the hood however I keep getting conflicting marks on this 2 barrel vs. 4 barrel thing.

Are you serious? It will help your engine breathe! You'd probably pick up about 5mph. I'd say that's quite a gain!

A lot of money for a very little return. It will make more noise at WOT and that's cool but unless you research the cam, heads, compression, ignition timing, and the prop. 3

Looks like a bit more is involved than a bolt on/ bolt off.

Probably not enough to allow you to increase the pitch of your prop. If you are hitting your recommended WOT now, it likely won't do much. Might help if you run your engine full throttle. Not sure I know many people who do that.

Nice boat. I would leave it a 2 bbl until you end up really wanting more speed, then build a stroker.

Thanks. We are really pleased with it thus far.
I think my current fuel consumption will tax my budget enough! I really can't afford to go fast on the water, I'm fixing some items, new radio head unit/ speakers, aux port, exc... Going to have some new canvas done shortly after and need to inspect the plugs/ wires, cap/ rotor as I'm not sure when they were done last.

How big of a tank do you have? When you were out were you on it the whole time or was that just general cruising? Just curious as I am still waiting for the last of the ice to drop on my local lake and have our new to us boat sitting in the garage with a 5.7 as well.

Thanks!

When I first got my boat I was like a kid with a new toy and burned up 3/4+ of the 40 gallon tank. Now I don't make many high speed runs. My cruising speed at 3000 is still faster than WOT on the last boat so I am happy cruising.

It is 50 Gallons. We put in $100 at $3.45 a gallon (28.9 gallons) The gauge went from near E to near F, after 2+ hours of running around at various speeds we were near the 3/4 mark.
I realize I'm going to have to fill it to the top to get any real idea of how much it consumes. Also, much of our trips arent destinations so clocking mileage isn't real easy. It appeared to cruise nicely around 3,000RPM's at low/ mid 20MPH range.

Good luck with your new boat!

I have the same situation, last one topped out at around 37, this one, 37 feels slow:)!

How much HP does the EFI version of the 5.7L have from the factory on yours?

I think it is 250 or 260. It is not a MAG. The 4 barrel carb should be about the same as my 2 barrel TBI.

Nice boat!!!
My boat topped out at around 55mph with just me alone. Went from a 1/2 tank to a 1/4 tank in 1 hour. The 5.7L like to drink gasoline a lot.

How does it tow? I see you have that Toyota 4 runner?

good luck with your boat!!!

What boat do you have that you are hitting 55? Maybe with just me and a lighter load I can hit those speeds:) I think a tuneup might help.
4Runner I think is near it's limit, jury is still out since for now we will just be towing local 1 block and out for gas. It seems to handle things just fine but I can definitely feel the boat. If we plan to go anywhere I'm buying a new bunk dual axle trailer and ditching this POS Tidewater roller. The repairs to make it comfortable for me to tow long distance are as much as an upgrade. (new tires/ spare/ winch/ bearings/ brakes/ fixing flat rollers, exc...)

1987 Celebrity 210v 21ft cuddy with a 1987 Mercruiser 260HP V8 5.7L alpha one gen 1 drive. My boat weighs 4800 lbs with no fuel in the tank. With a full tank around 5000lbs.
I hit 55 mph on a calm lake with no wind. that's as fast as I could get it before running out of room.

I like my roller trailer. It's a lot easier to put on and take off the boat. But not in the best of shape (needs tires/ brakes/ etc.) but I don't intend to get new tires on it till I sell the boat.
I tow mine with a 2000 dodge dakota 3.9l sport 4X4. Only rated for 4,200 lbs but I don't tow this boat that often.

Good luck with your boat!
