Re: new tow rig
My wife has the 5.3 in her Buick Rainier suv with 3.73's. On an open, flat highway with absolutly no stopping, slowing down or otherwise it will get 18.0mpg. Any city or stop and go traffic and you will see a hair over 14mpg. She has full time AWD which takes about 1mpg off the rating over the RWD version. The reality is not towing anything we get about 305 miles per 22 gallon tank. The 5.3 is a lot of engine for a midsized suv so it absolutly hauls. Unfortunatly, it's my wifes so it rarely sees anything past 30mph. Everytime I drive it I wonder why every vehicle made doesn't come with a V8. They are a lot of fun. I can't imagine having the 6.2.
You'd be shocked what a 5.3 will do. I've got a 03' Avalanche with 3:73 rear gears that gets 21mpg highway. He should do at least that with the 3:42 rear gears. (not towing of course!)
