On the rego paper it says wellcraft half cabin I email wellcraft and they told me they never made this kind of boat so I am hoping you guys can help me

Also the HIN numbers don't help at all they reference to my local council and they can't build boat let alone run the local rubbish pick up

So has any one got any ideas

Ayuh,... Welcome Aboard,.... If it was built in the USA, the Hin will lead to the Manufacturer, 'n it's Vintage....

Then there should be a HIN stamped on the hull - typically on the stern near the rub rail.

I will have a look today But I have never noticed Any thing there before
IF it isn't a US made boat after all, then the HIN may not be there. You can also look for a capacity plate on it near the helm - but again, that's a US standard.

if it is a US built boat and built after 1971 it should have a 12 character HIN/MIC (Hull Identification Number/Manufacturers Identification Code) code on the upper starboard transom just below the rub rail. Over the years there have been four different versions of this code. For information on how to decipher the code and track down the manufacturer see What's A HIN ?

I have done all the check on the HIN and it has gone no where so I might go to the transport office and see if they can trace it back to its original owner

What's the HIN number you found the transom? First 3 characters tell you the manufacturer, last 2 digits tell you year of manufacture. With that info I'll bet Wellcraft can confirm the model for you.

Yeah, I'm serious. Like Bond-o said... don't know what you're looking at, but you aren't looking at the HIN. Transom. Upper right. 12 characters etched into the fiberglass. According to this, there are 2 possible values for Wellcraft in the 1st 3 positions- PWE or WEL...

Deprecated Browser Error

After you've done that and found the year of manufacture (last 2 digits of the HIN), you can go here and find your boat..

Bowrider Fishing Boat | resources | Wellcraft

(I think yours is one of the Scarab models)

Re: New toy but need help

Your HIN does not follow any of the USCG formats and the MIC suggests built by TIEDE & SONS FBGLS CO in Texas but The 'AU" prefix suggests it was built in Australia. Contact your own Marine Department of Transport or whatever they call it in your country.

Interesting. Aside from the brand name listed on your registration, is there anything on the boat itself that identifies it as a Wellcraft? Decal, capacity plate, etc? If not, I'd do as boatpoker suggested and contact your boat licensing agency, ministry, whatever.

If there's something on the boat that positively says it's a Wellcraft, I'd send that 'HIN' info and some pics (including the Wellcraft identifier) off to Wellcraft customer servcice and see what they can tell you. Some possibilities:

1. It was built in Australia under license
2. It was built in the US specifically for export to Australia
3. It isn't a Wellcraft

Good luck- we'd all be interested to see what you find out.

Re: New toy but need help

All I can say about the boat is that it was not made in Australia but it was registered in Australia in march of 1994

I have searched high and low front to back and all I can come up with is the HIN I provided

Also I contacted the local department of transport and they only keep records for 7 years
