I'd be in touch with Wellcraft, then. Interesting that the idntification number beyond the 'AU'... is 12 characters long. It doesn't follow the US standard for content, but it's the right length for a HIN.

Makes me think it follows some formula that the manufacturer used for 'export' craft. It's all conjecture until you find out from Wellcraft.

Here in the USA if someone has a boat or a trailer with no title or registration papers on it, registration can be a major hassle. So, they often buy a junker with papers, transfer junker numbers on hull or frame to object with no papers, junker is cut up for scrap and disappears into landfill or junkyard. Now, 1977 Alumacraft with no papers becomes a 1962 Lone Star (or vice-versa) with title and registration. I won't tell you how I know this but I know it does happen.

Any possibility this is the case with your boat?

Ok here is my HIN. AU-TWA018836AS3

the number dont match the au database but as you have pointed out its a 94 and the database starts in 95 i found a website under .au that has info on hin numbers but it says the last part should be diffrent

au- country
TWA- maker
018836- serial
A- month
s3- year i guess as web site said 2 numbers after 95

could the s be a 9 which would be a 93?

You are correct but the maker is TWA. But that's the transport of Western Australia and trust me my government didn't build boats .
I called wellcraft and also sent them emails of the boat they just said we don't know what sort of boat it is

As stated earlier, TWA was the manufacturer code for Tiede & Son's in El Paso, TX.. However, Tiede was only a registered manufacturer for a couple years in the early 1980's and is no longer in business. Is it possible that its a custom built boat from a small Aus manufacturer and when the hull was registered through your Maritime Dept an arbitrary # was assigned? For example, I had an older boat without an HIN # and when I went to register it the Calif Dept of Motor Vehicles used "zzz" as the manufacturer code. I would use the "contact" page from your Maritime Dept to ask them
