Well, I decided to trade my fishing boat for a nice all around boat that I could both fish and tube with. Boat is an 86 Doral. The guy I bought it from claimed it to be a 16', but I cant find any info on a 16' Doral made in 86. I am thinking its a 14.7. Still enough room to have fun on the water though. Has a 71 Merc 50hp Thunderbolt. Runs nice and strong, and was rebuilt 3 years ago by a local Marina.

Re: New toy

No, I havent measured it yet. Just been so busy to do anything on the boat. Washed it, carpet cleaned the carpets, man it was discusting inside. Im suprised people treat their boats like this. Went through 8 loads of water and soap in the carpet cleaner and it was still coming out black. I think I am going to get in there with a scrub brush and soap, and scrub it all so its sopping wet, then tilt it back and take the hose to the carpet.

Anyone know how to get rust stains out of the carpet?

Once that is done, I am going to use rubbing compound on it to take away any of the surface scratches, and then a nice thick coat of turtle wax.

Nice boat - I really like those clean, uncluttered lines and that one-piece windshield. Reminds me of the Centurys of about the same period.

A buddy has a Doral I/O bought in the mid-eighties new and it's still running strong.

As for rust stains, I've had great luck with the Oxy-Clean laundry and upholstry spray. It completely removed the rusty mess a spilt can of iron filings left in our kid's room after he upended his chemistry set on a beige carpet....

Also maybe CLR? Never used it myself but if it won't wreck the carpet it is meant to deal with rust.

Real nice looking boat. Should move out nice with a 50. As a former closed bow runabout owner, if you fish, I guarantee you'll soon be looking for an open bow.
