Looking to swap original 1979 TA to a newer Alpha one Gen One TA and keep original 1979 Mercruiser 260 motor and 1979 pre-Alpha drive. New engine bell housing I hear is needed as rear mount width is different. Must be more to it... Help appreciated. Thnks

The power steering on the Alpha transom housing is different from the 79 type and also requires the Alpha exhaust which leans forward to clear the steering. Also you will have to have a power steering pressure hose custom made to connect the 79 pump to the Alpha steering. You might be able to re use the engine adapter housing but probably need to replace the mount bushings. I recently went through what you are describing on my Donzi.

You'll definitely need a new flywheel housing, and exhaust y pipe, which will also mean exhaust manifolds and elbows. And all the hardware between the pipe and the elbow (a couple of rubber boots and an aluminium bendy tube)...

The drive should bolt up without a problem.

Follow Kenny's lead on the power steering.
