Before I install the two pieces of 3/4 ply should I use a layer of mat between hull and ply or will the plywood bond to the fiberglass hull with no problem. It seems every time I am ready to install I hear a different technique and start doubting myself. I originally had a 90 hrs on it but may get a 1999 150 Force if my plan works out. I know the 150 will be heavier and alot more power so I want to make my transom strong. The hull is rated for 150 hrs.

Some guys are saying I should use epoxy resin because poly doesnt bond wood to fiberglass very well.

First, apply resin to the ply before gluing so the wood doesn't absorb any resin from the glue-up. I've heard of just using resin to glue the ply to the transom, but I prefer the peanut butter because it is much stronger than resin by itself.

I used a layer of glass cloth first, stuck to the skin with thickened epoxy - not quite peanut butter, but thick enough that it doesn't run to the bottom. Then gently clamped in the first layer of ply - don't want to squeege all the epoxy out...

You need decided on which to use (epoxy or polyester, both will work), then you can choose a method. Both products will work much better if you pre-coat the wood and let them soak in. Polyester should have mat used between the wood and transom, epoxy doesn't need the layer of mat, but will need a thickened epoxy (putty) layer so it has complete contact with the F/G transom skin. If the surface is smooth and easy to clamp, then less mat (polyester) or less putty (epoxy) is needed, but if the surface has high and low areas that need to be filled, more mat or putty will be needed. Don't over tighten the clamps and squeeze all of the resin or putty out, but it does need to be tight enough to make complete contact with both surfaces.

ditto everything that ondarvr said......

the hull must be in total contact with the new transom......

it is also possible the the transom is bowed.....

you might need a rig from your bow eye hook to your transom towing hooks to straighten the bow....
