been thinking of replacing the woody with an aluminum boat for up at camp where I do 95 percent of my fishing.being that it is a reservoir approx. 35 miles long and sometimes full of logs drifting depending on the water level an al. is much more pratical.plus I need a bow rider to easily load and off load.of course like anybody else price is also important.well im going to pick up a 16 foot bowrider starcraft which I believe is a ss160 of mid seventys vintage.hull is in good shape,transom is solid.looks like the interior needs work on the seats and id like to put a new floor in her also.has a 85 Johnson that doesn't work due to elect problem but I don't care as I want to put my 2011 60 hp etec on her.rated for 85 hp.trailer is decent also.its just what im looking for other than brand new,lol. so our inflated northern Canadian price is one grand including anchor,new battery, fishfinder and down riggers.i will post pics later today or tomorrow and when I decide what im actually going to replace or fix I quess I will be picking the brains of the starcraft fleet.

Great choice.

Visit the restoration section and read the "Sticky" posts. There is a starcraft index in there and you will find a wealth of information in there.

sounds like a good rig; we had two of the 16' starcrafts growing up (not at the same time). They had there positives and negatives, but the negatives can be solved with advice you find here!

what kind of negatives?so far ive found out that the 1976 85 Johnson is dead .zero spark atall and ive replaced the powerpac with no joy.stator?you could eat off the motor its so clean and has an amazing 120 psi on all cylinders dead on .sort of a shame to toss her ,but I bought the boat for my etec .boat is a 1978 ss160 starcraft.also found out she has a brand new transom which is a bonus .

first one had leaks and had the splash guard seperate from the gunwales. kinda rough inside. Dad found another at a good price so replaced it; that one the motor was temperamental. He upgraded with a new boat a little bigger and nicer interior. He wsn't into restoring, rebuilding a motor, etc.

update .cleaned up the ss160 and put the 60 etec on her.wasnt sure how good she would be concidering im 25 hp under the max or maybe by todays standard at the prop 20.well took her out today and to say the least im pleased ,goes right snappily as a matter of fact I quessed wrong and can go to a 17p prop and be even better as the 15 was hitting the rev limiter.seeing as how I got 5 or 6 omc 17p props im in,lol.compared to the woody she can really handle the waves fairly well for only a 16 footer.comes out of the hole fast also.best part its not killing my back anymore.im going to miss woody but she needs to be on a nice lake and loved by somebody that just wants to cruise around leisurely.
