Just thought you vehicle electrical guys would get a kick out of this.
We did a high end radio install for a Government agency in August 100 watt UHF Radio, Siren and Light package but very low profile, if you don't know what to look for you would never know it was the five-oh!
Today he comes in radio is freaking out and the vehicle just runs weird. Vehicle has been back and forth to the dealership(not a very good one, I have those that I trust with these issues this one is not one of those) to troubleshoot the vehicle running issues but have yet to nail anything down.
One of my better guys is going nuts on this car today so I asked him to check the ground of the vehicle and well he just had it with this car and if you troubleshoot enough difficult vehicles sometimes you just lose your mind, its understandable. So I measure the ground wire between the battery and the first ground right next to the battery, 2 Ohms, I measure from the battery ground to another ground under the hood 6 ohms, and to the motor 6 ohms. This number remains consistent throughout the rest of the vehicle.
This vehicle is less then a year old, but it is a common thing in todays world that I believe has many factors but one of the worst is the use of Magnesium Chloride on the roads, I have no verifiable information this is just a hunch since I see more and more of these issues in the last decade.
I believe that the computers in today's cars and radios, just are not able to deal with that much resistance in the system.
Vehicle runs great now and the radio is happy, I have also made a Process Change in all installations we do that now requires the Negative of all equipment we install be routed directly to the battery, no more chassis grounds.
