My firefox just upgraded itself and now when I do any searches from the firefox search, my McAffee site adviser kicks in thinking I'm going to a bad place. What gives?

I'm running Ad Aware also, do you think it's safe to run solo?

I would switch to something other than mcafee just for the fact its such a cpu hog.

There may be conflicts between ad aware and mcafee. Generally, you should only have one ant virus running at a time.

I run ZoneAlarm and Spybot and never have any problems. Ad Aware used to be decent, but techie testing lately has shown it hasn't kept up with the times. Just what I've read.

I wouldn't put or keep any firewall or AV program on a PC that is installed as bloatware by a PC maker. Just personal opinion.

If you have Windows, try Microsoft Security Essentials. Unlike McAfee, Norton and AVG, you hardly know it's there, and it works, at least for me. 3 years of use so far, with as many as 6 computers online at any time, it's caught whatever tried to get in, even with my firewall off.

And Firefox

Actually, I stopped having problems, when I got firefox and quit running Explorer many years ago, and I don't run any virus software and have never been bit by a virus.

Has not happened in over 30 years of using and programing computers, we had this discussion not to long ago, I don't understand why so many now a days, thinks it is necessary to run virus software, early on when Norton's was getting started, I did some beta testing for their company as well as Microsoft when I was young, did some work with intel as well, this was before I got out of high school, it is not hard to prevent infections., you just have to know how to set things up to prevent it. We didn't run virus software on our computers when I was in the military.

Keep one thing in mind, Not everyone has your knowledge, abilities, and experience with computers.
Matter of fact, very few do.

I don't forget that Don, that is why I am more than willing to teach anybody that wants to learn, now that I am retired, I help quite a few in my local community learn how to save some money as well as protect their computers without having to install the virus programs, which can really lower performance on certain hardware platforms. It does get a little tiring, when ever this stuff comes up to keep hearing the "there those that have and those that will" and something to that effect gets posted every single time this conversation come up.

Re: New version firefox triggering Mcaffe site advisor

Over the years I've got about one grand in actions taken due to computer virus/malware. So I believe in prevention!

I've run Trend Micro for several years on my desktops with generally good success. A couple of times something got through and I had to either scan or do a restore to get rid of it.

I run Avira freeware on my laptop. The Trend Micro was incompatible with something in this Vista software and so I was forced to move away from it. Avira is highly rated by Consumer Reports, for what it's worth.
