New VRO pump

I just found a brand new VRO pump on ebay for $65. I took a gamble that this will work on my 70 HP. I looked on the BRP site and the application is for a 60 HP (same year 1985) but I thought I had read that these pumps are basically all the same. Can anyone confirm this, or do I have a pump that will not work?

One other thing, while trying to figure out how to drop my lower unit (I did figure this out and the task is complete) I dropped the engine ground nut into the lower cowling. I have not been able to extract it as of yet, and I wonder if I need to worry about it. Can I leave it there and just get a new nut?

Yeah, it should fit except maybe for the warning horn wiring. Update/replacement kits come with a 4-wire adapter for your 3-wire harness. They are mostly universal now. Earlier versions had hose connections going in specific directions per size class, but replacements have fittings that can be pointed as needed.

I'll bet you can get at that nut by removing the skirt under the pan. I'l bet you find a few suprises there as well with a few more parts or fragments lurking there. When I do, I flush the crud out of the pan with a garden hose sprayer. Otherwise it should be harmless where it is, use a stainless or brass nut in its place.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'll have to examine the engine as I can't visualize how to remove the skirt. I'm with you, I'd like to clean that up under there.

Ok I looked and I can't seem to figure this out. How exactly am I to get the lower cowling off. I thing it was refered to as the lower pan in the above post.
