After replaceing my water pump on a 1996 evinrude 150. I notice water coming out of the top on front of the lower unit and around the gearshift tube where the swivel attaches to the exhaust tube. I think thats what its all called. I dont remember water coming from this area when i hooked the water muffs up to it before. It still shoots out the back of the engine and around the 3 small holes around the bottom. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Just trying to get ready for a new fishing yr and save a little money. Thanks in advance.

normal, at the factory, they seal the area between the leg and lower unit, dropping the lower breaks that seal, not necessary to reseal.

You're just getting more water pressure now, after replacing the worn-out pump.

Cowboy, On my '98 Johnny 150V6, there are cast in grooves, or voids where the gearcase meets the midsection. These grooves or voids are expressly there to allow water to drain out.

Also, it may be wise to drain a little lube after you've run a new pump a few times to be certain there are not any leaks in the LU.
