I have a pipe with a screw in end cap connected to my drainplug that I just allow to drain once I have threaded the pipe through the bilge drain - much easier and cleaner

I use a funnel with a hose attached to the end and feed it through the drain into a collector. Plenty of room in my compartment to loosen the engine drain plug and allow the oil to drain into the funnel and out to the collection bucket. Why would you mess up your bilge with so many options available???

Guess it could be like my OMC where the dip stick tube is fit into the oil pan drain plug and nearly impossible to remove in the boat. On the other hand, since the dip stick tube has the suction hose fitting on it it makes the suction method get virtually all the oil. The problem I have is when I remove the filter it seems that no matter what I do I loose some oil into the bilge that I have to wipe up/ Seems to me the messy part of the job is the filter, not the dranining.

I do, and so does MrBill.

KaGee: haven't needed the personal lube to get my hands into (or out of) tight places yet (talking about the boat; get yer minds out of the gutter  ), but can envision situations where having it handy might save some skin. Will have to consider making it part of my boating toolkit. Where'd you get that little guy rolling on the floor laughing? He's pretty cool!

vatter41: can't you get some newspaper with paper towels or shop rags on top under the filter area? If so, makes cleaning up leaks from the filter alot easier!

Why not install a remote filter?
