Haut,

I didn't go into as much detail as you but this is something we seem to agree on.

1st Degree Murder should apply equally to anyone committing such a crime, regardless of what position thay happen to occupy.

However, although I believe it wrong, I understand what the lawmakers were trying to accomplish.

One distinction, (other then the previously discussed issues of intent et al), would seem to be: intentionally killing an armed peace officer on duty or an on duty fireman or ambulance driver responding to an emergency. That seems to present a sufficient danger to the rest of society, (over and above me Bro doing somethin' to his wife or other of me Bro's family member(s), [which would not be good either], but not as potentially serious a risk to the peace or the public's well being as intentionally attacking authorities). That type of act should earn some real serious potential punishment, IMHO. JR

I did learn that good Christians are supposed to be compassionate and forgiving.
Personally,I have only limited use for that idea.
Not a challenge but a question. I agree with you on the forgiveness part and I am personally more in sync with Judaism in this regard. However, on the compassion part, how is that consistent with your feed the hungry comments?

The part where I am limited is the forgiving and don't even start about forgetting, that is not in my book.I firmly believe in appropriate punishment for crimes within the rule of the law.
I also believe in being compassionate to those who are not as blessed as I am.
Besides, where others helped me once,it is my responsibility to pass that gift on by helping others and maybe I can make the world just a little better.
About forgiving and forgetting.
My wife has forgiven me a number of times, but she will never let me forget what she forgave....

I guess I was most confused about the inference that you had "limited use" for compassion . . .
