Some of you might or might not recall my earlier endevours to move to the US to take up a job offer in Newark. After almost 3 years of trying to legally join my family there, I've decided enough is enough and accepted a job offer in Wellington, New Zealand, starting 1 June 2006.

Although I don't post on here too often, I'm a great lurker so I'll still be in touch. I might have to change my nic as I've sold my boat so I no longer have 'rudes (and don't intend buying them again) and now I'm also moving out of Africa.

I'll buy a new boat as soon as I've settled down and will probably go for 4 strokes.

Keep well

John

Great choice!! ;) :D :)

There are a lot of South African people in NZ and they seem to settle in here very well. It's a superb place for boating - Wellington has a great sheltered harbour (not quite as good as Auckland though ;) )

Good luck! and please let us know how you get on.

Edit: Here's a live webcam of Wellington Harbour.

http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~seebee/

I met a few of your fellow statesmen at a BBQ at my house back about 20 years ago, they were verry intresting fellows to talk to. They told some not so nice stories of life on the home front. Any connection with your leaving? Just curious,
Sorry you didnt get to be with your kin here, but 26 illegal mexicans took your place. :(

That’s because under the cover of darkness they all fit in one sedan.
:D

Hey John, coming to the US legally is a huge pain in the backside. You mentioned having family in the US so you have a reason to attempt it. Otherwise, I’d suggest looking elsewhere in the world. Deep down, the US probably isn’t the country it was once perceived as. As of about 20-years ago people realized there was better living elsewhere. Technology has shrunk the world so now there are lots of options that didn’t exist 30-years ago. If you are ok with the lifestyle, I think NZ is one of them.

Enjoy NZ!!! We’re tentatively planning to hop in there for 7 days around the 3rd week of May. Besides, need to get my hands on a Swazi.
:)

Probably shouldn't put you up to this one so early in the piece, but if you stay in NZ and get your Nationality changed, you then have right of entry in to Aussie, as the 2 countries have this free-movement of peoples under some agreement.
BUT, if you are a typical Africaaander and love the game of Rugby, once you adapt to supporting a winning team, you will really enjoy NZ.
My daughter and family have just moved over here from Lower Hutt (Wellington). On a fine day, Wellington is beautiful. On a not-so-fine day, it is a city with "character".
We have neighbours from your country; we have a lot of imigrants from your country.
Good luck to you mate.
Cheers
Phillip

The point is you were speaking plainly. Remember, you said it I didn't. Do you wish you hadn't?

Re: New Zealand here we come!

Hey to all my old mates. Long time no hear. Well my move went great but to my dismay we have no access to iboats from New Zealand. Only managed to get in via a proxy now. Also had to register again as my previous email addy is no longer valid so I can't get my password sent to me. May a helpful mod can help ( hint hint :D )

So much is different on the site but so much is the same. Nice to be back and see some of the old faces still around.

Regards

Re: New Zealand here we come!

Hey Rudeafrican, I hope you are enjoying it there. My mother taught school somewhere there before marrying my father. That's about all I know about that. They enjoyed living there while they did though.
