First post to forum. Have a history of pleasure boating larger SeaRays. Now more interested in fishing boats and even though southern Indiana isn't a Lund market to speak of (mainly Ranger,Titon ect glass boats) Lund has always been of interest to me. There are no Lund Tyee owners in my area.
Wanting feedback on 1950 Tyee. Looking very seriously at that model with 225 Verado. Since it would have occasional use as a pleasure boat, the Tyee works better for my situation thab Pro V.
Any info or recommendations appreciated.

Re: Newbe looking at Tyee any reviews or owner feedback

I was going to add this post to the other Lund person who has a problem with his trasom, but will place it here. I just sold my 96 Tyee to a Lund Mechanic, the very first thing he did was crawl under the splash guard (in back) to check the stability of the transom. He admitted that they have a problem with this area rotting out. My boat was fine, even though I store it outside in the summer (covered) and always inside through winter. I loved that boat more than any of the 8-10 boats I have owned. Overall my Lund experience was awesome, but I did learn a bunch watching this guy go over my used boat.

Re: Newbe looking at Tyee any reviews or owner feedback

While this original post is two months old, I felt like responding anyway because I noticed on the Lundboats.com site that the Fisherman model appears to have been discontinued again in favor of the Tyee. It was Lund's most popular boat for many years, but they discontinued it in 2007 because it was hurting sales of the more expensive Tyee model. Dealers screamed, so the factory started building them again in 2008, but without the hand rails on the bow (to readily distinguish them from the Tyee). I wonder now if the new Tyee is still as expensive as the previous year's model or if they decontented it a little to make it more in line with the Fisherman. Aside from some interior trim features, the two boats looked almost identical, so I can see why Lund would want to combine the two. But in previous years the Tyee was $thousands more than the Fisherman.

Since the two boats are so close, I may be able to give some usable feedback. Ours is the 1750 Fisherman with the 115hp normally aspirated 4-stroke motor, and we are quite satisfied with the combination. The higher rated 1950 Tyee with a 225 Verado would be more than ideal. You'll love the IPS2 hull design for stability making turns at speed and the smooth ride. What we appreciate the most is the high freeboard (if kids or dogs are on board) and the 25" transom in the rear. The high transom makes the boat a deep-water boat indeed. Finally, provided the boat is well cared for, the resale value of Lund Fisherman/Tyee models is very high.

Navy Jr,
Thanks for the reply. Since activity is somewhat limited on this site, I hadn't checked in a while.
Sounds like you're pretty happy with your Lund. The Tyee will suit my needs for family and fishing...esp freeboard and room for grandkids and parents. I haven't taken delivery yet (4wks to go) but am looking forward todelivery. Heading back to Lake of The Woods (Whitefish Bay) in July and hoping to make that trip and taking the new boat.
Have a great fishing season in beautiful Twin Cities area.
