Newbe question?

I recently purchased a 14' boat with a 1993 Mercury 50HP (thanks to the respond from this board - posted the serial no. to find out what I had). Bought the impeller kit and replaced the old one ( looked to be good but why chance it). The service manual I bought tells me to run the highest octane gas available. No problem with that, I just don't know if I needed to mix oil 50-1 with the gas. The manual kind of reads the oil injection system handles the mixture. Help -Is that true - do I just put gas in the tank without mixing old?

Thanks - Al

Re: Newbe question?

Greetings, Al
Welcome to the forum. It's an oil injection
system,so just make sure the oil tank never runs close to being dry....Instant disaster if it does.
Many folks (me included) do not trust oil injected systems, and prefer to disconnect the oiler system, and mix our own fuel/oil,thus making cetain it is proper.
But, just keep an eye on that oil tank allways, and you should be fine.

Re: Newbe question?

I am pretty sure your mercury will be equipped with an alarm. It will trip if the oil injection system stops working so, shut the motor down and investigate the alarm. I agree w/12Footer and I really don't trust the oil injection systen either systems. A good suggestion is to carry a pint/quart of TCW3 oil aboard just incase the system fails you can add iol directly to the gas.

Bob :) :)
