All:

Bot '89 VIP Victory 20 w/5.0 Cobra & OMC outdrive. Is in great shape, was owned by Mechanic, runs like a top. Have taken it out 3 times and it is very fun. Learned a few things like there are less OMC service places than Mercruiser...

Questions:
1. It has 450 hours. Is that a lot for a 15 year old boat?
2. Huminbird Depth finder works with engine off, but not when engine is running. Any ideas on wiring it differently?
3. Water in Bilge: Have a few gallons in bilge after running. Will be checking for leaks in bellows, transom and plug this weekend. First by Garden Hose, then by letting sit in water and checking for leaks. If I find a leak, does silicone caulk temporarily fix?
4. Most boating done on lakes where can always see shore. Does VHF radio still make sense in this day and age of cellphones? (I think I know the answer but wanted to poll group)
5. Horn is anemic. Instead of replacing, would hand held air horn be just as good?

Thanks in adavance.

Any other pointers appreciated.

Hi, Murph.

Welcome to iboats. :)

Post your questions seperately in the correct forum.

H'Birds are notoriously sensitive to alternator voltage. Check your voltage regulator.

Do you have the phone numbers for water rescue, etc.? How about other boats on the lake? Keep the VHF and learn how to use it.

I'll check the voltage--thx for the VHF thoughts. I do have the phone numbers programmed in my cell for the lake I am going to--however, the VHF for the weather scanner seems to be the right call.
