Well Im new here but this looms like a good forum to ask, I got a 1985 Chris craft with a 3.8 merc in it. The engine is bad and I can't find another 3.8 so my buddy has a 4.3 were dropping it. Hopefully its a easy swap. My question is can I pull and install the motor without pulling the out drive? And what parts should I Change while the motor is out? The 4.3 is out of a truck so I'm doing brass free plugs and marine he's gaskets. Anything else or anything on the out drive I need to replace? Thanks for your help!!

Sorry, drive MUST be pulled before the engine is removed. The alignment tool is used set the alignment of the engine to the drive... Have a look in the stickies and you'll find my videos on removing and re-installing the drive, also on doing the alignment...

thats quite a project

you'll have to replace all the engine externals too, not just the long block

your best bet is to find a rotten donor boat with a good engine/drive package in it
