Newbie Force owner with a couple ?'s

Hey all - i'm a newbie here, and I've just purchased a 1993 Sylvan Sea Monster with a (supposedly) 1993 40hp Force outboard. I've had several fishing boats in the past, and they've all been Johnson's, so i've somewhat wandered into unfamiliar waters...

First concern - where does the water come out of? i see no pee-hole. There's a rather large port on the very bottom of the motor - i'm wondering if most of it comes out down there? there's two holes in back of the motor that discharge some steam & exhaust fumes, but no real "stream" of water...

Next - This motor has no guages, overheat light, etc... I'd like to install a tach, and a temp gauge (or at least a dummy light). Is this possible? there is a harness that comes out of the rear of the controller, that i'm guessing has something to do with the guages. Can anyone be of any assistance with a tach and/or temp guage recommendation?

I'm sure i'll have many more questions in the future, as I just picked it up last night. Thank you!

Force motors of that vintage had no tell-tale to verify cooling water flow. The good news is that you can easily add one for under $10, Take a look in the forum there is a link to a how to for instructions. Adding a Tach is also a great idea, just make sure that you get one that is designed for Force. Force used a different number of poles than the other major manufactures. A good place to fing gages is Sea-Surplus, I got a Force tach from them for $35

I think that the Force needs a 20 Pole Tach. I know it is different than the rest.

THis site has helped me keep my Force Running. I could not of done it without this sites help.
