Nice boat. I just replaced the transom on an I/O and it wasn't that bad. Replacing one on an outboard should be much easier.

Thanks guys! I didn't mention that before but yes Watermann, I do plan on going through the motor before dropping in. Bow Guy I will def let you know about that. Hoping to start stripping the motor off and getting to work on it this weekend. I have been digging around looking at some replacement threads. I was looking at classiccat's build and REALLY like the idea of the transducer mount. I have a fish finder I'd like to get one sooner rather then later but don't want a permanent setup yet. I just need to find some of that board I have seen the glue on ones but I would like to be able to swap it out without having to chisel it off.

If you dont get enough info when you ask a question, quote yourself and give the question a bump.

What plywood (where in the boat) are you asking about?

1/2 for the deck (floor) is typical and OEM. Jumping to 5/8 doesnt mess up panel fitment along the gunwales or misalign the walk-thru windshield, too much but does take some effort to do. Using 3/4 usually requires adjustment for both.

Price MDO 4X8 sheets. Here they arent as expensive as MarinePly and are a great product to work w.

Aurauco is available at Menards if they are in NY.

As noted previously, by several, NO PT! Anywhere on an aluminum boat. No, I dont care that shops you arent using recommended PT. Perhaps they are getting commercially available PT. Thats NOT what you can buy at HD or Lowes and as of yet, anyone thats priced it online discovered shipping to be nearly as much as the price per sheet, so double the cost of MarinePly. But that is an entirely different type of PT that isnt available to 90% of us.

I'd use 3/4 MDO for the transom. Thats what I used in my Duracraft

Sorry. Wasn't trying to repeat threads. I started the new thread because I am confused by all the choices. I have talked to the people at HP and Lowe's and they are more useless then I am.

I picked everything up and plan on starting the new transom tomorrow. Random question. Have you guys found it easier to drill the holes with the transom slid into place, or mark the hole pull it and then drill?

I mark the holes and drill the transom out of the boat, that way you don't have to worry about the angle, just drill 90 degrees through.

If your transom has any wiggle room left and right, make sure its cwntered before marking them. I drilled with mine in and didnt think of that. Its not off much and wont be an issue though. Just a thought.
