Newbie Gamefisher problem

I have a gamefisher 7.5 hp I am having trouble with. Got it a year ago and it ran fine. I let it sit for a while and when I went out a few days ago it started acting up. It was running bad and would bog down when I gave it more gas. I was having to pump the fuel line bulb and it would pick back up. It seemed to help when I closed the vent on the filler cap. Should that be closed during running? After a while it wouldn't crank at all. I figured the fuel had gone bad and replaced the fuel and tried again today. It cranked right up and ran for a minute and went dead and now will not crank. I know its getting gas from the tank because it is running out of the carb (should that be happening). I checked the plug and it has spark. Any ideas on what could be the problem or what I am doing wrong?

Welcome to iboats.

Your fuel pump isn't keeping up with the demand. The vent should be open on the tank. When you first close it off, the gas inside pressurized the can and that was forcing gas to the motor. But before long, that pressure runs out and turns to vacuum. Then even a healthy fuel pump won't draw eventually.

You'll probably have to rebuild the carb and the fuel pump. Your motor could have an orange bladder inside the carb as the fuel pump. They rot and tear and don't pump and leak out the carb. Since you only run occasionally, it would be wise to always use Stabil in your gas to help keep the carb clean when the motor isn't being used. Every time you're done running the motor, disconnect the tank and let the motor run until the gas is used up.

Thanks for the help. I did add Stabil this time. I will check out the carb. What all needs to be replaced when I rebuild it?

There "may" be a small rubber-ish (orange colored maybe) tube like thing that slides into a pocket in the flange where the carb meets the engine. The carb must be removed to see it. It "is" the fuel pump and last time I checked was avaiable at Sears for a couple of bucks. If this is split it will make the engine run very poorly.

Again, weather this is applicable to your model is a guess, but worth looking into.
