I want to appologize in advance for my lack of knowledge pertaining to my new (used) boat. I can see I will learn much soon.<br /><br />I just bought a four winns 190 freedom (1990). I took it out and about 2 hours into riding I could hear a trickle of water comming in the engine compartment. It is a constant trickle about as big around as a spegetti noodle coming in from the 5" opening where the engine meets the lower end. I am totally New to I/O boating and need some help diagnosing. Is there a main seal that has gone... any help or links would be greatly apprecieated! Thanks.<br /><br />One more thing... it doesn't seem to leak while I'm driving, only when the boat is floating.<br /><br />Mike

Sounds like your u-joint bellows is leaking.When you're on plane it's out of the water.Get it checked out before a)you do more damage and b)you sink the boat.

Could also be the seal between the exhaust duct "Y" pipeand boat leaking see doug russell dot com and they have a catalog for OMC with exploded view.

thanks for the advise. I just ordered the shop manual for the boat from Doug Russell (thanks Motox6). My father and I are pretty good with a wrench. Although boats are new to me, how hard is this repair? How much would I expect to pay to have it done? Any special tools needed? Thanks in advance.<br /><br />Mike

Well looking at the illistrated parts break down you should be able to get it done pretty easily. All it is is a rubber seal behind your exhaust pipe at the bottom of your boat. Looks like it comes out to the side. Mine is a V-8 that I had to pull the engine to get to. Like I said the doug russell parts cataolog online pretty much gives you a good look at it. 4 boltsoff new seal and 4 bolts back in

How about the U-Joint Bellow replacement. How much of a task is that?

Easiest way to do it is pull the outdrive and it will all be in plain sight, you will want to order a aligment tool cause these cobra drives are a pain to reinstall if the alignment is off even a 16th of an inch.

Where could I get that alignment tool and replacement bellows?
