Hello All,

I currently have a 77 70hp evinrude that is the best motor that I have ever had. It currently has the side control with the key start built in. There is no auto trim/tilt.

My question is I am looking at a center console which was pre rigged with a mercury outboard. I know from searching that the current quicksilver binnacle mount that is on the console will not work with this motor. I tried surfing for a top mount control for this motor with no luck. I would like to keep the existing cables as they are like brand new and I am not sure how to go about rigging it with the key.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thank you
J

I would bet you that if you took the control box apart you will be able to remove the key switch and mount it somehow on your dash. You will want to plug the hole it will leave to keep water, wasps, and other stuff out of there.

Re: newbie here with a control question

Thankyou for the info. That is what I thought about doing just wasent sure if that would work. The other issue I have is finding a Top Mount control that will work with the OEM cables and this old motor.

Any Ideas??

I would try a marine salvage yard. Lots of them online with toll free numbers.

your current control will mount on the side of the center console, that's how i have mine. i seriously doubt your cables will reach, as the cc are routed under the floor. if the current cables are teleflex, all you have to do is change the ends. to OMC ends. check ebay motors, steering and controls for an binicale control. there were some there the other day.
