I grew up on boats but I'm finally looking at a VERY nice Rinker 266 of my own. This boat seems to be well cared for and is just the size I need. I'm really quite resigned to buying her but this worries me. What do you guys think of this crack near the seat/floor in cockpit.

Is this cosmetic or a potential problem? What are possible fixes? I remember my parents houseboat with all the FG problems they had and I'm a bit gun shy. Heck, I'm surprised we never fell through the roof of that houseboat in college.

It could be an old problem allowing water to seep below the sole if its a through-crack.

Mind educating me. I'm not on the hook for this boat, it just fits right. There are others. ^^^

Is this a sign of bad support or just bad gelcoat? I'm trying to learn so I don't make a huge mistake. If it were leaking, wouldn't I see a water spot in aft berth or somewhere underneath?

Is that all that is wrong with the boat.
Looks like it might have been caused by overtightning of that screw in the corner.
Any soft spots in the deck or around that area?
Doesn't look bad to me,looks more like cosmetic.

If you think the boat was well taken care of then how much water do you think could of gottin in that crack.
Looks like an easy fix to me.

Mine has a couple cracks like that inside the transom box and water washes over them. I didn't see any evidence that water was leaking past those cracks but to be on the safe side I lightly sanded the cracks to scuff them up, cleaned em and filled/sealed them with clear epoxy. Strong, barely visible and some extra peace of mind. A very minor repair.
