This is my first post so i hope it is in the right section.

Like the title say I am looking at buying a bass boat. I have spent allot of time on the water just not allot of it around bass boats. ( Usually in the big wake boat that the bass guys are b*thing about ) I need some advise and oppinions on th boat I am considering.

This is the discription that the current owner sent to me. I have not seen the boat yet but will be lookng at it next week.

?A great first boat.? A completely restored 1988 Ranger 360 Red Man All American.

Completely new carpet, two new 24 volt batteries, every pump was replaced, like new 24 volt 80lb thrust Motorguide trolling motor, new boat cover for the boat and motor, new windshield, new bumper rail all around. The XP150 Evinrude engine has been compression tested every valve has 93lbs of pressure, it runs perfect. Two bank battery charger, new ranger tie rod straps, new ranger tire cover. Pictures are good but in person you really will appreciate it. Asking price is $ 9,000 obo

He wants to trade me for my Rhino that i am asking $7700 for. On one hand this seems a little over priced but if it is in the condition that he says it is it seems like it might not be. He doesn't mention any fish finders or GPS but if he did all of the other work i would think that it has electronics on it (but I'm not going to assume that it does).

1 Is that a good price?

2 Is this a good boat?

3 Is it a good motor?

4 93lbs of compression seems a bit low to me for a 2 stroke. Is it low or is that acceptable for that motor?

Sorry for the long post and all of the question I am just really lost at this point. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Welcome to iboats!

Priced way too high in my opinion. Do a simple google search and see what they are selling for elsewhere.

Ranger is a good solid boat but got much better in the 90's time period. There is no reason to pay so much based on a name.

93 lbs is "acceptable" but barely. Sounds like the boat is worn or well used.

Do yourself a favor and continue to shop. Now is the time prices are at the lowest level at the end of a season.

Concentrate on the hull and engine and don't give too much mind to all the "extras", if the hullor engine are bad all those extras won't do you anything.

The first thing I saw in the ad was something that wasn't there, he redid the entire boat but it didn't say anything about the transom or stringers, what normally causes problems in a boat like this, so I would ask if they were redone also.

9K for a 21 year old bass boat in any condition is WAY high, it sounds like the guy spent 3-K on new parts for his old boat expecting to recoup the cost when he sold it but it doesn't work that way, if I put $4000 rims on my truck it doesn't make it worth 4K more.

Your call but be carefull, if he hasn't rebuilt the hull you could be getting a shiny turd.
