hello all, I just bought an 85 fisher 1542SVconsol control with a 9.8. I tried to identify the year with the serial number but am quite confused. I know its a 2 stroke, and its supposedly the original motor which i would assume right because the trolling motor has the same color scheme stickers on it. So i narrowed it down to an 84, 85, or 86. the serial # is A113176.

I want to rebuild the carb, waterpump, and lube up the gears. but dont know if i can do it on my own. so if i took it to a repair shop what should i expect these things to cost me? also since its consol steering no tiller handle would I have to take off all the controls and give them to the mechanic as well? thanks in advance guys and looking forward to using this site!

Comes up as:

MERCURY - ( 9.8 H.P. (1985 ))
Serial No: 0A113176 Model No: 1010525

Parts listing for model 1010525:

Mercury Parts, 7.5 /9.8 H.P.

Service Manual P/N: 90-86136--1

90-86136--1 | eBay

These are jobs you should be able to do yourself after you get the manual and save yourself a lot of money however, at $80/100 for labour rates and the cost of the parts on top, you will probably pay more than the engine is worth.
