newbie needs help

I'm new to this and just bought a boat for (I think ) was a good deal but the temp sensor was unhooked and I don't know where it goes any help would be helpful....thx

Also the motor is a 1987 90 hp mercury

A little suspicious.which end is disconnected?Purple or tan?

I'm talking about the single tan wire from the back of the motor coming out from just below and to the left of the top spark plug.

Should attach to head via clip or screw etc.Have a good look on both sides,check slack on wire should narrow down the area.Ive got an 88 I'll check on mine tomorrow and let you know.
