And I got a fishing question:

Do you guys still get the blue crab runs in the summer? What about snappers (baby blues)?

Some people here in FL don't believe me when I tell them that I used to catch HUNDREDS of blue crabs, just off the pier in Jamaica Bay and Coney Island, using pyramid and box traps. And when the snappers ran, all you needed was a bamboo pole and float and you pulled them in every other minute.

I'm 56, and this was during my youth. Then, pollution and other factors badly affected the fishing. But after the creation of the Gateway National Park area, and the cleanup, by the time I left Brooklyn in 1994, it was all beautifully cleaned up. But I don't know whether those great crab and snapper runs ever returned.

I can tell you I fish about twice a week off the rockaway side of Jamaica bay right past the bridge of kingz plaza (I think its called breezy point or something) pier fishing they call it the stone wall. The crab always eat my clams off my hook. been a couple times crabs grab my hook.

View attachment 199739 this is my outfit less the ice box and seat I relaced them with a padded bench, and I have a 6hp outboard, I have been out with two of us in the boat its ok for a coupple of hours so I go on my own most of the time, I fish in north wales in the irish sea and it get rough qiuck, but the boat is very stable with a ali floor, I have fitted a winch in the back of my van so i can pull the boat trailer and out board up the beach it is heavey on your own but worth the hassel because its great fun, just rember the safty gear I make a list and chek it of before I go out, where I am the anchor is very important because the tides are strong, good luck

Congratulations! You're gonna have a ball with it!

I kind of know where you're talking about fishing, but I definitely know the area. The actual Breezy Point neighborhood though is private and gated, which you probably know, and VERY cool. I was invited there for a party once, and it's like all of a sudden being in Long Island. (Great bar in there too!)

But you reminded me of something:

As you're driving down Flatbush Avenue and Kings Plaza is on your left, and before you get to the Marine Parkway Bridge before Breezy Point, there's an old air force base on the left, a huge one, Floyd Bennett Field:

Anyway, it was run down and most of it not used for years, and entrance to the area was "kind of" restricted. However, I used to fly RC planes there, and supposedly the fishing was amazing off the rocks when a certain species was running. (Can't remember which though.) The reason I bring this up is because after I thought of it and read the link above, I see that they allow CAMPING in there now. And that means they probably let you in even if you're NOT camping, and it might have the perfect spots to launch your vessel:

It's paved in a lot of places right up to the water line! They may also have hosing facilities to wash down your boat as well.

And now that summer is here, you gotta go after some blue crabs! In an inflatable, I would use a few flat, collapsible traps (real cheap and easy to stow), not the box or pyramid traps. And some of those crabs eating your bait may be huge horseshoe crabs, no good for eating but the freakiest looking crab on earth! But did you know that their blood is being INTENSELY researched these days as a possible cure for serious diseases?

How are you gonna handle registration? Besides the horrible DMV, do you have private places that act as tag agencies for the state, where you can get your registration papers and sticker the same day? (Your boat will come with a title--don't lose it!) For my Sevylor, I didn't stick the numbers and sticker right on the boat; I used a plastic plate and tied it on when I went out.

And the most important question of all:

Did they give you a tracking number to track delivery!?

I will go to the dreadful DMV in Coney Island. Wait in line and they will tell me I am missing paperwork. Oh boy how many times has that happened. But I know I'm gonna have to register my engine also. I have no idea how I will do that because the last owner from New Jersey did not have a title. All I have is a bill of sale that I printed and he signed. I don't understand why I need to register a damn blow up boat. Money hungry pos. then they want me to get a license by taking a class (is there a place I can take one online). Oh and ill try Floyd Bennett they now use those abandoned hangers for roller hockey, basketball and tennis courts

Register the engine? I don't remember having to do that in NY.

You need to register the boat to comply with the coast guard. There is a difference between a boat and a raft. Anything that you can hang an engine on that is 5hp or greater is a boat. The deal with engines is that most places in the lower 48 have banned 2 stroke engines. The only way to use one is to get it grandfathered. The boating course depends on where you live and where you are trying to use the boat. A lake is a different world than the atlantic or a river that feeds it

Thanks for your help Ronald, as soon as i gt the point gonna bring the forms to dmv to register. I spoke to an expert in a marina, he said any two stroke outboards are hard to find, he was a little surprised to see me bring in a gamefisher. it was like he has seen a ghost, he was fairly young and might not be familiar with these engines. paying him 155 for spark plugs and to grease and lube everything and another 50 dollars to start and run it in a tank. I plan on using it for the rest of this season and next then will probably buy a 9.9 merc brand new

Buy a Zodiac pressure gauge along too, those inflatables needs to be air topped to work as expected as you will be hanging a 15 HP on transom which are heavier than smaller portable motors. Those gauges are propietary brand, no other will fil. It's a must have one.

Not trying to dissapoint you before Titanic is launched to sea, but a larger next size 340/350 would have been much better than a smaller 310, those Zodiac 310 romboid bows lose precious front needed space. Which 310 model is the one you finally purchased ? If possible change it for a Kadet 340 or Zoom 350, will enjoy them much better.

Used to have exact same Zodiac 310 with a 15 HP, was changed in a very short time for a roomier 340, made all the extra space and much easier to plane difference.

would love to get your choices but were talking a price difference of $300 and up. the cadet 340 is $2100, I spent 950 including shipping for the 310. if price was not an issue I would have bought a 14' inflatable rib. the more information I get the more I feel like I made a bad decision.

Where you bought the sib, it's not a bad decision, boating is real fun, the price difference is astonishing though. ? If got you clear, there's a $ 300 difference, so the 340 cost$ 2,400, right ? You payed $ 950 for the 310 shipping included, was that a special price? If so, not much to think about it. Excellent price purchase.

BTW, those pressure gauges are protected by a yellow rubber cover, has a color dial in the inside which rotates against a black painted needle located on outter plastic screen. Inflate all chambers evenly so to have the arrow stops at middle green color, top if needed once sib is flaoting for some minutes rest on water for pressure to stabilize.

thank you, I bought it right from iboat. I was going to buy the 11ft Saturn 330 but even that was like 1100 with shipping. My expenses keep increasing as the days go by 950 for boat, 450 for engine, so far avg 250 for full tune up and complete diag, 40 for 2 pfd, still need marine radio, emergency troller with battery prob gonna run about 600 and fish finder (cheap walmart brand)

340 costs 1200 (didn't look at shipping) the cadet is the 2400 sib. I paid 950 including shipping for a brand new 310s from here(iboat). quick question, it comes with a foot pump but someone told me I would not get the correct pressure that I would need a high powered pump? is that true?

Wooden deck sib should have been sent with standard pump, which is bit smaller in diam compared to the more pro ones. If being a light feather champ will need to inflate vigorously while pushing foot hard on pump untill correct working pressure is achieved.

Have checked Iboats Zodiac prices, the price difference between a Zoom 350 and a 310 is $ 250.00. Is not only larger, but wider, can handle heavier loads, take more gear, perfect for top 15 HP, no sweat. Personally would change it if being possible, but that's me..

Congrats, way to go, the Zoom 350 handles much better. A 310 is bit tight with 2 and gear. Usually you start buying a inflatable that matches your current engine and then go from there buying extra gadgets, gear, etc. You been doing bit the opposite, buying extra gadgets first and going for a less size sib than opt needed.

You won't have too much available transom space to place an electric trolling motor next to main engine if planning to buy one or already having one. Check with Iboats if possible to contact Zodiac main dealer to send a pressure gauge along 350.
