Newbie looking for help learning more about engine.

I have a 1988 Four Winns Horizon 200.

OMC502APRGDP

What are these (see pic)? The wire in the cluster of three, the one on top (cleaner one) keeps disconnecting. Trying to figure out how to plug the two together to get a more secure connection and what the engine may do when it disconnects.

Thanks in advance for helping

Orientation for the picture... These are at the stern side of the engine, opposite the side of the engine with the water pump pulley, crank shaft pulley, belts etc. In the picture, stern is to left and bow side of engine with pump, pulleys, belts are to the right...

Lol...

To the left of the electrical tape. Has red, blue (with white stripe?), green wires going into connector from right.

By any chance, are the wire colors standard? Meaning - I might be able to find a diagram?

I notice some wiring appears to be uniquely colored? -- yellow with blue stripes, yellow with green stripes, blue with white stripes, solid red, etc

Thanks for patience on what may be stupid questions. Just starting to learn.

More info on why I ask...

Just finished replacing the power steering cylinder and actuator. During installation, the connector in the picture came apart. Since the installation, I've had the problem detailed below...

Trying to figure out if this weak connection is causing a weak spark? Or if dust and debris from install fouled carb?

Problem I started experiencing after power steering cylinder/actuator install:

Engine will turn over but then dies out at idle speed - 800 RPMs. If I throttle up to 1,000 or 1,200 RPMs, engine stays running. But, when i come backdown to idle (800 RPMs) the engine will stall. New spark plugs installed in May.

Thanks mjf55.

The link to that OMC Service Manual is great. What service manual is specific to 1988 OMC502APRGDP? I will purchase a paper copy once I know the right manual to order.

jbutler67, I am not sure what the specific manual would be. If you want a closer year, it would be your year (1988) and it looks like it is a OMC 502 engine. In the linked manual, all engines were there, just 2 years newer that yours. I do not think that it would matter.
Try your luck searching for "1988 OMC Service Manual"

I think the connector in question is your trim / tilt circuit.

I will follow the wires from connector - most likely does lead to power tilt/trim.

Will post results.

Thanks again mjf55.

mj55 - you are 100% correct. The connector is the trim / tilt circuit. Thanks.
