I have a 14' Lund Larson Acadian aluminum boat. The floor is rotting out. I would like to replace it but have some questions.
a) Does the floor provide support to the shape of the hull?
b) If I remove the floor, I assume I'll find runners to which I attach the new floor. Can I just screw the floor into these runners? (instread of using rivets)
d) Would a better idea be to put in new wood runners and screw the floor down to them?

Re: Newbie -replacing floor questions??

your boat already has aluminum stringers lay your floor out snap lines to the stringers center use aluminum self taping screws make sure to use 4/3 or beter ac ply or marine and counter sink all the holes fil them after you screw the deck down eather use a good glas fiber body filler or like i use cavasil and resin mix do not ad hardner if u use cavasil just mix a small amount of resin to the cavasil then thin out your resin with acatone about 50 50 and 1 cc hardner to pt resin 1pt acatone roll out whole floor underside befor so mentioned this is your first step after dry fitting the pannels wait 1 day and then apply a coat of resin 7cc hardner to 1 qt resin and roll it outas you finish each pannel
put them in place (have a buddy screw them down wet) you need to work fast if its above 65f out . then do the above mentioned/////////step 2 glassing do as befor with thinned out resin...make sure you use a no wax resin on all of this alow to dry over night pre tear your glass use a sheet rock square and tear the sheets to overlap the sides roll out the floor aply the glass and roll out all the air bubbles with a roller tool and use a ruber body puty knife to fold over the glass start with a full sheet of glass and on your second layer u use a half sheet as to overlap seams... if worried about glass on your aluminum use a releas agent on the gen area 3 in above and below the floor surfacetthen when all gell coated you can presure wash it off
