Newbie! Smoke amount and oily water?? 1990 Johnson 6 hp

Hi guys!
Just joined these forums, and have been reading a bunch of posts that have already helped me out. I do have a question of my own. I just got a 1990 6 hp 2 stroke Johnson for an inflatable. I put it in a barrel to get it running, and I probably ran it in the barrel for about 10 minutes. During that time, it gave off a decent amount of white smoke. I tried looking at Youtube videos and noticed their motors didn't give off as much smoke as mine did. It hasn't been run for maybe 6 months. I used the older gas that the guy gave me. When I switched to new gas I just purchased, it seemed to lessen a little, but still gave off a bunch. Is that normal? too much oil in gas? I used a 50:1 ratio. The new gas is ethanol free. Dunno about the older gas. Maybe some evaporated and left a higher oil to gas ratio?
Also, after I dumped the barrel of the water, it seemed to be brownish. Not super dark, but definitely not clear. Okay? Thanks guys! Hopefully I can get this guy out on the water soon!

Your gas is flat and not enough octane. Is your choke completely off? Check the 50;1 ratio might be 100:1

ok, I'll stop running the old one. Yes, the choke is completely off. How about that brownish water? normal? does it give off oil or something in the water?

You can mix the old gas with some newer stuff instead of just tossing it, it's not going to hurt anything unless it's mixed with too little oil. The water after running an outboard in a barrel will be full of oil/exhaust residue and chances are your lower unit will be covered in it as well, it's nothing to worry about.
