Hi All..
I am new to this list. I am starting a new ERA to our motorhoming. My wife and I have decided to pull a pontoon boat behind our diesel pusher when we camp near water, which we do a lot!
Our Maiden Voyage will take place in about 3 weeks to Lake Havasu Arizona from Conifer Colorado where we live. We plan to stay there 2 to 3 weeks.
The fact that we will tow like this actually made my decision on what size boat to buy. I need to stay under 65 foot overall. Actually 70 here in Colorado but we do travel. So an 18 foot boat was tops. I upgraded the trailer to 14inch "D" range tires with disc Brakes cause I do so much mountain driving.
We ended up with a Sylvan Mirage Cruise with a 60 Evinrude EETC. I was skeptical about the 2 stroke but checking into some forums and talking with a few folks and watching Evinrude's great DVD sold me.. Man push one button to fog and winterize.. That got my attention.
I have owned fixed hull boats before mostly in Michigan where I am from but decided that pontoon would better serve us.My wife and I and our two pooches.. We just want to cruise around sight seeing and drown a little bait.
The dealer worked with us and I think I got a fair deal on what appears to be a good boat. It went to the canvas shop today for a mooring cover.. The interior and all look real good so I think that if this "plan" doesn't work I should be able to recoup most of our investment..
The other thing that surprised me was insurance.. I went through BoatUS and came away with higher limit medical and liability coverage for like $110! I had used them years ago and just checked on line.. They were literally 1/2 the cost of the "Big Name" guys..
Anyway, I am excited to get my feet wet.. Maybe we will see ya on the road.. Just look for the American Eagle that looks oversized!

Welcome Ron, and congratulations on living the life we all dream of. Would love to see pictures of the whole rig hooked up together, as well as checking in from time to time w/ pics from your adventures. Never actually saw a big diesel pusher back down a ramp and launch a boat before. You should love that 60 Etec, miserly on fuel and good power on your rig for what you will be doing. Good luck !!!

Welcome aboard Rhusak. That DP should make a great tow vehicle. We tow our Party Barge 22 behind our 35 ft gas rig and it works out great. Towing with a MH you don't have a problem with wind drag, so you will hardly notice it back there. We haven't tried launching or retrieving with the coach (too chicken), we have a pickup for that. We boat on the colorado River below the dam that formed lake Havasu, hope to hit the lake this season.

Living the dream, Ron. Post photos so we can drool. Only note is to check with your dealer on the mooring cover. Many are not designed to be a travel cover.

Re: Newbie Tooner

Hi All..
Thanks for the responses..
Well lets see.. I am a bit of a chicken as well.. When we go to Arizona in a few weeks we are staying at a state park and I have rented a slip at a marina right next door.. They have said they will launch my "Toon" with their tractor if I don't feel comfortable. That is probably what I will do.. When traveling closer to home my wife will be driving our towed vehicle and I will probably launch with that.. Man it really sits high on it's trailer.. As I said I went with a larger trailer with 14 inch "D" rated tires with brakes because of my mountain driving. The dealer has shortened the tongue of the trailer to get her under 65 feet.. That is with the motor down.. But the skeg is still a couple of feet in the air so no worries..
The cover is a "travel" and mooring cover.. Go that covered.. :)
I will be taking pictures.. Then all I have to do is figure out how to post them..
I have high hopes for good times..

Glen..
Look forward to "enjoying" your lake!
We are staying at Cattail Cove state park..
You should come up to our side of the dam..
