Newbie water pump replacement checklist

I'm about to open my "new" '88 200 v-6 Johnson to replace/rebuild the water pump this weekend. I have an OEM manual, a water pump kit, new drain/fill plug washers and will have new LU lube. What else might I need to complete this job? Thanks in advance guys! This forum has already guided me thru battery selection, charging, gel-coat polishing, etc!

The lower engine cover is split and easily removed, which will make the process much easier, especially when you replace the gearcase.

Try not to turn the shift rod while removing and replacing the unit. An extra set of hands is especially helpful, too.

Be sure to mark the position of your trim tab before taking it off so that you can put it back as it was.

Don't forget the bolt hidden above the trim tab.

This would be a really good time to replace the anode above the anti-ventilation plate.
