Newbie with capacity plate question

Hi, I have a 1978 Lund 315 guide (15 ft. fiberglass trihull) and the plate states max horsepower is 35 I have a nice 40 hp but I don't want to get in trouble for running it why is the hp so small on this boat?? my neighbor has a smaller 14 trihull and his plate says 60 hp max. any info ???

that is what the mfgr rated the construction to support. you will probably get away with a 40.

The only problem is with your insurance company. They will deny any claim if they find out you have "overpowered" your hull.
