Hello everyone. Newby requesting premission to come aboard.
I'm trying to negotiate my best deal on a 1703 and hope for some owner opinions. I want to fish both the Long Island Sound and Lake Champlain with her. I have a young son who I will be introducing fto fishing as well. I have fished there waters for years but currently boatless. I heard a lot of "could be worse" remarks. Does anyone have one they currently fish either of these waters with? If so do you have the Mercury 90 hp for power? Overall what say yee. Yea or Nay.
Thanks,
Trollby

Re: Newby here

welcome aboard:

some quotes:

We were able to get her to plane in 3.2 seconds and went from 0-30 in only 7.2 seconds. Those are impressive numbers for a boat this size. The foam stringer and flotation help with keeping the weight down and it really shows in the performance. The top speed was 36.3 mph at 5,500 rpm?s, which produced a range of 92 miles with the 37gallon fuel tank. And the best cruise was found at 4,000 rpm?s with a speed of 25.4 mph. At this speed you can travel 167 miles before refueling.

I really enjoyed testing this boat, and if I were in the market for a new center console the 1703 would definitely be in the running. When it comes to quality, value and performance this fishing machine is a hard boat to beat.

Trophy 1703 CC Test Result Highlights

* Top speed for the Trophy 1703 CC is 36.3 MPH (58.4 KPH), burning 11.4 gallons per hour (GPH) or 43.15 liters per hour (LPH).

* Best cruise for the Trophy 1703 CC is 20.6 MPH (33.2 KPH), and the boat gets 5.10 miles per gallon (MPG) or 2.17 kilometers per liter (KPL), giving the boat a cruising range of 170 miles (273.59 kilometers).

* Tested power is 1x90-hp Mercury OB Saltwater.

but consider used examples (sometimes you must assume the $10K outboard is bad, unless you spent a LOT of time on the survey)

I don't own a trophy. However, I do have a comment about boat configuration. I prefer a dual console with closing walk-through over a center console as the CC doesn't offer much protection from the weather. Some of the best fishing on Champlain is during seasons that are windy and cold- spring and fall salmon for example. A dual console is easier to tent up.
