I have a 2000 70hp johnson 2 stroke. Unfortunately, the block cracked so I bought a 1992 60hp 2 stroke to replace it. The 60hp ran on a rack when i bougt it. I installed the motor on my boat and the old control box for the 60hp was in really rough shape. I removed the older controller and installed the controller from the 2000 engine. Unfortunately, all the plugs didn't match. So from there, I switched out the wiring harnesses to match the remote. Now my 60hp engine has the controller and wiring harness from the 2000 70hp but won't start. The engine will turn over and is getting spark and fuel but won't run.

might look for a used controller for the 60hp motor, for use as is, or try to restore the older controller with one you find for parts.

Put the red plug back on the 60 and buy the adaptor for the controls, I believe CDI makes them.

The replacement controller should have the red connector. Price out the adapter -- may be the cheaper way to go.

had no success looking for a replacement box (kind of enjoy the search....)

The old Power Pilots had a red plug. Thinking that might work for you if that connection is what your 60 needs. I couldn't even come up with one of those tonight, but they are out there. Maybe Flying Scott can confirm whether the Power Pilot would work.

A control box with big red plug works on a motor with a big red plug.----Correct on the trim / tilt.---Just about every big motor today has trim / tilt.----Not the same as the 1970's motors when it was an expensive option.
