I'm a brand newbie, hey everyone!
My sister and brother-in-law gave me the boat. She floats n runs but everything else needs restoration or repair.
Currently I'm trying to get the v berth back rest cushions off (gotta start somewhere) and can't figure how they're attached. I've tried to find info on line with no success.
Does anyone know? Or know of a good source?
Thanks!

Most likely the bolsters are held in with vertical screws just behind the cushions in the hull liner.

Use your fingers to find the screw heads

Have you checked the stringers and transom for moisture?

Thank you. I did feel around behind it but couldn't find any exposed screw heads. I'll check again.

I haven't gotten that far in yet. Stringers are wrapped in fiberglass, is that correct? How will I know if there's a problem?

Either use a moisture meter, or make test drills

Sea Ray changed the attachment method for upholstered access panel/trim panel attachment methods over the years and it usually looks impossible.

One method they used is a christmas tree clip where you use auto trim plastic tool to pry it off, sometimes they used a combination of a few screws to an L channel plus the clips to hold the backer board.

You have to pry it off to the point where you think youre breaking it and sometimes it does break at the attachment points if there are screws and clips. That shouldnt matter if ur reupholsting anyway, There should be 3 panels, a short one at the bow, and port/starboard panels.

Like Scott said, feel in the pleats for screws 1st, then have at it.

Thanks!

I just took a light out there and looked/felt closer. There are little lumps under the carpet headliner every several inches top and bottom but I wasn't able to get a screw head to come thru. (Feels like upholstry staples.) That carpet is going to get replaced so I think I'm just going to pull it out for a better look.

I'm at the very beginning of this project, very excited but also sizing it up and trying to learn as much as I can. I wish it was like a motorcycle and there was an exploded view. It would make things easier!

Unfortunately boats are not documented anywhere near motorcycles.

Think more like undocumented food truck recipes.

Fastener locations varied often on a daily basis

(Undocumented food truck recipes) šŸ˜‚ That's both hysterical and frightening at the same time!
