1982 Johnson 70
I'm just planning on getting a gearcase seal kit and a waterpump kit to redo all the seals. Does this seem like a good plan?

Replace the waterpump kit, yes.

Replace all the seals-no.

The most common lower unit leaks are from the fill and drain plug seals. Replace those when you service the L/U.

Mikemaster, you can pressure test the lower end to see if it leaks. Drain the oil and pump air into the filler hole. Don't pump more than 18 psi or you'll be doing seals for sure. You should raise the lower unit out of the water when not in use to help keep water out.
