I was told to make sure I could run NGK marine plugs before I install them because some outboards specify not to use them. I don't understand the logic behind possibly not being able to use them, but I'm gonna ask anyway. I'm running a Yamaha Vmax 150 2 stroke. It's a 1998 (serial numbers P150TLRW). Can I run the NGK marine plugs? What's the reasoning behind not being able to run them in some outboards if this is true at all? Just curious?

Re: NGK Marine Plugs

I believe Yamaha specifies NGK plugs in all their motors, but I'm not familiar with a NGK "Marine" specification???

The marine plugs look like the image below. Seems like the good thing is you would not have to worry about gap setting. Maybe this could be the reason (some engines may not accept the gap setting) Just a speculation that just now hit me. I hear they fire great....Any ideas or data stating why you supposedly can't use these in some outboards?...........

Re: NGK Marine Plugs

Surface gap plugs for special motors and applications. Maybe just run the NGK plug that's specified for your motor...no problem!;)
