I've never hear a horror story about a jackplate. Dialing mine in is easy as pushing a button. Literally.

Anyway, you're running between 16% and 20% slip.

ezeke and Dhadley:

Home run on the plug issue! you are exactly correct when you indicated what the manufacturer used in designing the engine. That is not to say cross overs do not work. But great job on the eplanation.

I'd like to see nothing over 12% personally. 10 or under is pretty good. 8% would be very good in most cases for a recreational boat.

How do you go about lowering the slip? Your talkin to somebody who just puts the throttle down and goes but likes it to perform well.... Sometimes you have to be 1st to the spot...LOL we have some small lakes around here no big waters till we go to Winnipesaulie in N.H. or Lake Champlain in Vermont which I'll be at in July for the State Championships. Also don't like to spend a lot of money if you know what I mean.

Re: NGK's vs Champions

Start by evaluating what you have. Overall set up, balance, prop style, prop conition etc. Does your rig need more bow lift? Tail lift? Then look at your driving style. Are you trimming enough? Too much? Jackplate (if you have one) too high? Too low? Could the rig use more / less setback? Motor performance - is it running as it should? Are you at optimum top rpm with an average load? Even elevation will play a part (we'll assume you're at or close to sea level).

Basically there's no one thing to change. It's an overall thing. The prop will play a very big part but you have to get the most out of what you have to establish a baseline so each change can be judged to be positive or negative.
