Nissan 15HP question

I have a 2008 nissan nsf15C outboard motor and was told that I could purchase the carb for the nsf20C motor and that will get the extra 5 horsepower since everything else on the motors are identical. I have found the part but question if the change is that easy. Can it be done or do I need to change the CDI or adjust timing or is it just not possible or worth it.

Same CD, different carb. Yes, if you change the carb, you will get the full 20 hp output.

Wow - that almost seems too easy. You wouldn't happen to know if there are any other adjustments that need to be done to the engine such as timing or anything. Or does the motor do that all electonically?

Re: Nissan 15HP question

Timing is handled by the programming in the CD. The carb for the 15 has a smaller throat, so it's essentially a de-tuned 20. Open up to the big carb and get the last 5 hp.

This is typical of carbed 4-strokes. (Also carbed 2-strokes, back in their day). Manufacturers need to provide a range of hp outputs for specific boats and uses, and the most economical way to do that is to make a few base models, then de-tune one or two of each, as "red-headed stepsons". In the Tohatsu/Nissan/Merc 4-stroke carb world, the 2.5/3.5, the 4/5/6, the 8/9.8 (Merc calls it the 9.9), and the 15/20 fall into that category.

Re: Nissan 15HP question

First off all, Thanks, Paul for the proper manual, I got it.
I am looking to get Oil filter for my Nissan 15 HP, 2010 outboard.
I went through a Manual, Owner manual and some websites and got nothing.
What is a part # of nissan 15 ,2010 oil filter, guys? Natan, Mississauga, ON, Canada

Re: Nissan 15HP question

Nissan lists it on their website (under the parts/accessory) section http://www.nissanmarine.com/accessories/oil.html

the part # is 3R007-6150M and can be ordered through any nissan marine/tohatsu dealer as well as a bunch of on-line websites. Same as the Merc. 15hp 4str (same motor) oil filter too...but more expensive

Re: Nissan 15HP question

Natan,

Glad the manual arrived OK.

The Tohatsu/Nissan part is 3R0076150M OIL FILTER, 9.9-30 HP 4-STR $8.67. I agree with Elvin that it's the prettier one of the bunch ;-)

FWIW, here's a table of compatible filters:

AC PF1237
FRAM PH6607
LEE LF2876HP
MAZDA B6Y1-14-302
MOTORCRAFT FL816
PUROLATOR L14622
SUBARU 15208-KA-010
WIX 51365

Re: Nissan 15HP question

Thanks again for the help on the carb. I just changed it out and it works great! On my 14' Lowe Sea nymph, my top speed increased from 21mph to 25mph and gets on plane much quicker than before. Well worth the money.
