Nissan 25 hp Shifting from F/N/R

I just bought a boat and motor from a guy. I am sixteen and never owned a Nissan motor before... Just a little 9.8 Mercery. Anyways, my question is on my mercury it has the words on the tiller handle where you are properly supposed to shift it. On the nissan it just shows a "drawing picture" of a turtle and rabbit.. Am I just supposed to line the lines up or where is the proper place to turn the throttle on my tiller handle. You shift it at the turtle...I am never going to forgive myself for writing that.
