I have a 2002 nissan 6hp 4stroke long shaft with a standard prop.
I would like to change the prop to a lower pitch. There seems to be 2 different props
with a 6" pitch available.
7.9x6..part #393B645121
8.375x6...part #399B645121
does anyone know the difference between these and which one would be the best for
a sailboat.
Also is there any other adustment one should do to the engine if I change out the prop
ie. to limit the max rpm?.......thanks

Re: Nissan 6hp Hi-Thrust prop.

The first one you have is the normal "hi speed" prop, just with 6" pitch instead of the 8" pitch that came with the 6 HP engine.

The second one is the high thrust "elephant ear" prop which is the one you are looking for. That is the same prop I am getting for my sailboat as well.

If you have a tach, the full throttle RPM range is 5,000 to 6,000 RPM. There's nothing really to adjust on the engine to limit engine RPM other than prop changes. Unless there is an adjustable throttle stop, or you could make one. You would need to measure your RPM first to be sure.
