My father has a 9.8 nissan and He just got a new 14' aluminum boat....the new boat is deeper than his old one and it doesnt seem like the mtor reaches low enough in the water...How far down should the motor go in relation to the boat? also is there a way to put a longer shaft on that motor to make the prop sit lower in the water?

Re: nissan 9.8 extension?

The correct model and serial is imperative when discussing service of any Tohatsu or Nissan OB. Not just horsepower, nor year.

The ventilation plate of the LU should be in the range 1" above the bottom of the boat to 1" below. Measure the height of the transom. Up to 17" calls for a Short; 18-22" calls for a Long, and deeper calls for an UltraLong.

Extension kits can be had. They include a shift rod, driveshaft, water tube, and the exhaust housing extension.

Often it is cheaper to swap for the correct length motor.

OK, sounds like a 9.8B, which is a 2-stroker. The KW rating is just kilowatts, which is a representation of power, similar to horespower. It's possible to extend a Short or a long by 5 additional inches, to result in a Long or UltraLong.

If you have a Short shaft now, your kit would be:

1 of 3B2610122M
1 of 3B2S611921
1 of 3B2643021M
1 of 3B2651100M
1 of 3B2660130M

If you have a Long shaft now, your kit would be:

3V1S873143M

Parts are available from any Tohatsu/Nissan dealer. Before ordering, identify your present shaft length, (distance from the inside of the transom clamps to the ventilation plate) and what length the boat requires.
