Have rebuilt carbs, cranks easily, jumps out of hole on first try. Run about 100 yds and then just dies. I can get it to crank, but have to constantly choke just to keep running. Work my way back to shore and park. Next day can do the same thing. Is this an air leak, fuel pump, or what?

Re: Nissan 90A Dies after short run

I just took it out again. Here is what happened in 15 minutes of run time. Cranked pretty easily. Rough idle to start. Ran with fast idle up to 2000 and let run for 1 min. Idle got better, but not great. Put in reverse and eased out of boat house. shifted to forward and ran up to 2000 rpm. let run that way for a couple of minutes. then gave it gas and it came up fairly well to 4000. Ran it around 3 minutes at that and then went to WOT. Did not accelerate immeadetly. Then 5500 and really cruising. ran for 30+ seconds and back to 4000. Ran like that at WOT @ 4000 for 3+ minutes and all of a sudden it went to 5500 and felt great only to last 45 seconds. Did this up and down 2 more times and then she just bogged down to nothing. Tried pumping bulb, it got tight but no change, loosened gas cap and no change. Any help would be appreciated

Get out the service manual. Pick one of the engines three primary systems and start troubleshooting. Chances are it's in the fuel system so I would start there.

I am not sure what year yours is but i have an older late 80's early 90's Nissan, and i have been haveing the same problem, basicly running like crap, when get full throttle runs all right and then falls on its face. Well after taking carbs off to make sure nothign gumed up, it was not. replaced the fuel line and bulb, was dry rotted a little. still same problem. I went to marine shop and got some of that 2-4 fuel conditioner. And i tell you what purred like a kitten, then i started putting higher octane fuel, and one heck of a differance. i think the the gas drawls moisture and the conditinor takes care of that, and higher octane means less moisure drawling. That helped me out so try that sir. and if its like a motor like mine, make sure your oil is being pumped properly, Just today mine quit and scored the piston sleeves, took off the head and dry as a bone, one cylinder has 30 LBS and the others have 120lbs. A very sad day for me. :(

And Just like in your earlier two nonsensical posts: His motor is nothing like yours, and his problem is not related. OMC conditioner does nothing for water in the fuel. 87 octane is plenty; Higher octane does not affect water absorption. No "mechanic in a can" products will fix this kind of problem.

Thanks for the advice Guru. I was pretty sure thats what you Guru's were going to say that. Hopeing for a quick fix, but not thinking would find one. Like to ask people who see this kind of stuff regularly. Don't put too much confidence in post from someone with less post than I have. I usually read a lot of post before asking any questions to be at least smart enough to tell the full story and ask pertinent questions. I hate trying to talk to someone who doesn't even know which end of the motor the prop is on,

Thanks

I would check your filter(s) and fuel lines. 1st then go from there.
