Re: nissan and tohatsu 4 strokes
I only have an older 2-stroke that I am working on, that is my only experience, if you are looking for a new engine (4-S) I think they are as good as any of the rest. Tohatsu is actually the maker of the Nissans and make all the 30hp and smaller for Mercury, I believe Evinrude just entered into an agreement with Tohatsu to make their smaller engines, up to around 15 hp. I think a warranty issue on one of them would be like any other motor, some dealers/service departments are good some are not. From what I have read on the Tohatsu forum on this site, bad fuel sounds like the number one issue for problems, seems to be very important to not leave gas sitting in the engine for any lenght of time, in other words, when you are done for the day unhook the hose and run it dry. One thing I do know, I see a lot of small Mercury's where I live and everyone seems to like them.
