Re: NJ Fluke!!

I wish I was back there and heading out on a fluke trip too! Fluke are one of my favorite fish of all time! Neither too easy nor too hard to catch, and the best-eating fish IMHO. Cannot beat fresh ocean-caught fluke sauteed in lemon and butter.

We don't have fluke here off So Cal, but we have the California halibut, so I guess I can't complain. But unlike fluke, which group together, halibut are solitary and spread out like fleas on a dog - everywhere, but hard to find, and you never really get into any numbers or wide open bites like you can do with fluke; you get 2 or 3 legal halibut and you've had a real good day.

Incidentally, I was at the Korean supermarket tonight with the gf. Huge seafood department that now calls the live halibut they sell "live Korean fluke", which is good because most are well shy of the 22" limit for California halibut. Wonder what's going on with that.

What are the size and bag limits now for NJ? Have a great trip and post up a report!

The new limit in NJ is 18 and 6 per person. Where'd you usually go for fluke in NJ?

18" inches is getting up there. I started off very young on party boats off the Jersey shore with my Dad, then we got a Mako 19' when we moved to Long Island. We'd take that out of 3 Mile Harbor and fluke Gardiners Bay and/or the rips off the north side of Montauk point.

If you are in NY the minimum size is 21" and the limit is 2.

Have fun,

^New Jersey Recreational Fisher here as well!

I haven't been out in ages (relocation to Harrisburg, PA for work) but we used to fish for fluke in Belmar, NJ - Shark River Inlet.

yup, i agree...i do alot of fishing in NY waters too..

N.J. needs those laxed regs for revenue, boaters and fishermen spend $$$. If I remember right NJ is breaking federal law by allowing such limits. N.Y. changed theirs to conform, someone correct me please.
