Dont forget YOU or anyone who will operate your boat will need a BOAT LICENSE!

With the recent boat license thread, your post made me think, does one need a boat license if they bring their boat into a state requiring one from a state that doesn't? Not as a resident, but on a trailering or snowbirding trip?

New Jersey officials recently proposed a law banning smoking in your car. Will this apply to boats too? New Jersey should lead the way and also require boat seat belts.

Last I heard you don't need a license in NJ for a power boat, but you do need on for a PWC.

You do need a license in NJ to operate a powerboat. If you were born before a certain year (late 70's I think, check it yourself though) you need a license.

KIGuy52- are you suggesting that there should be seatbelts for boats? Maybe if you're just cruising it could be practical but what about the fisherman? There's too many things that need to be done on a boat that can't be done while being constantly seated.

No, I was just being sarcastic because of their proposed smoking ban, but boating helmets might be a good idea....you know what them libs say... "if it just saves one life".

I know this is an older thread, but in NJ you DO need a boat liscence if you're operating it in non-tidal waters. That means lakes, resevoirs and rivers above the tidal regions. If you use it exclusively in saltwater, you don't need the liscence.
